1358 industrial units get rid of ozone depleting substances

TEHRAN, Sep. 20 (MNA) – Manager of the National Ozone Project has announced the elimination of ozone depleting substances from 1358 industrial units in the country.

At the 28th anniversary of the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol and the Ozone Day, Ebrahim Hajizadeh said that, “changing the function of these units and equipping them with modern technologies has been a tough task.”

“Implementing the present laws and regulations and with the support of the Parliament, government, and some international organizations we managed to accomplish this project,” he added.

Hajizadeh further noted that, “the activities of these units in 31 provinces are now being monitored and the reports are sent to Iran's Environmental Protection Organization.”

“So far, we have received 60 million dollars from the United Nations and we are also allowed to use the government’s budget in accordance with the Parliament’s legislations,” he asserted.

Hajizadeh underlined that in addition to the elimination of ozone depleting substances in the country, we have tried to influence the region as well because we already have the necessary technology and power to do so.

Announcing that five thousand tons of depleting substances have been removed from 25 factories, he added that, “we were supposed to complete this process by December and fortunately, we are not behind the schedule.”
